Kolkata records coldest day of the season

A severe cold wave has swept across West Bengal, impacting not only Kolkata but also various districts in the state. The Meteorological Department reported that Tuesday marked the coldest day of the season in Kolkata, with the morning minimum temperature dropping to 11.8 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees below the normal range. The maximum temperature recorded was 19.8 degrees Celsius, registering a significant 6 degrees below the seasonal average.

The chilling weather has extended its reach to districts like Burdwan and Asansol, where temperatures plummeted to 8.8 and 9 degrees, respectively. Although the weather office predicts a possible rise in temperature by 2 to 3 degrees over the next few days, rain is anticipated, offering relief from the cold spell. Kolkata is expected to experience partly cloudy conditions on Tuesday, with a maximum temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 11 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department forecasts the likelihood of rain in various parts of West Bengal, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, North Bengal, and select districts of South Bengal. Tuesday and Wednesday may witness light rain in Darjeeling and Kalimpong, while North Bengal and certain South Bengal districts may experience rainfall. Some areas of East Medinipur, Jhargram, and Bankura districts are expected to receive light rain on Tuesday, followed by rain in several other South Bengal districts on Wednesday. The unseasonal rain is anticipated to create a humid environment, with fog expected in all districts during the morning. Despite the current cold wave, temperatures are projected to rise in the coming days.
